Michele Patsos, the wife of longtime college basketball coach Jimmy Patsos, has tragically passed away at the age of 47. Her family confirmed the news in an obituary this week, mourning her untimely death.

Michele was known for her deep love of sports, particularly college basketball and horse racing. She was a dedicated supporter of her husband’s coaching career, attending games and events whenever possible. Whether cheering for Jimmy at Loyola Maryland, Siena College, or other stops along the way, her enthusiasm for the game was infectious, and she was always by his side, sharing his passion for basketball.

Jimmy Patsos, 58, has had a storied coaching career, first as an assistant at the University of Maryland, where he helped the team win the national championship in 2002, and later as head coach at Loyola (2004-2013) and Siena (2013-2018). In recent years, he has remained deeply involved in the college basketball community, particularly in the DMV area.

Messages of support have poured in from across the basketball world. George Washington University’s men’s basketball team expressed their condolences, saying, “The GW community offers our deepest condolences and sympathies to @CoachPatsos on the passing of his wife, Michele. We send our thoughts and prayers to Jimmy and their family during this difficult time.”

Many who knew Michele shared their sadness, recalling her love of hockey and the banter she shared with those around her. “She was a Penguins fan, and with me being a Ranger fan, we’d always have some kind of banter,” one reporter remembered fondly.
